Information from Boating Committee at Keowee Key Regarding Boat Slips

From John Leckrone, Chairman of the Keowee Key Boating Committee:

My name is John Leckrone and I am a full time resident of Keowee Key in Salem, SC.  We have lived here for 13 years and I have served on the Boating Committee for 7 years & the committee’s Chairman for the past 3 years.

We have 317 boat slips within our community & currently we have 67 people on our waiting list for slips.  That being said, we are attempting a few new & different procedures to reduce the number waiting.  One item is, as of April first it will require a $200 deposit to place your name on the waiting list.  If your name reaches the top of the list & you decline you will forfeit the $200.  If you decide to take the open slip the $200 will be applied to your first years lease amount.

I am asking for your assistance in this endeavor.  Some buyers have been told that a slip comes with any purchase within Keowee Key, it doesn’t.  Another is, some Realtors are telling buyers to go ahead and put their name on the waiting list – even if they don’t have a boat now, but in anticipation of getting a boat in the future.  If this is accurate, it really inflates the waiting list.

I cannot verify the accuracy of the comments made by several different residents, I am merely relating what I have been told.  We will continue to do everything within our power to reduce the number waiting.
